Thanks to everyone that commented on our last post about the images of the restoration of our 1965 Mustang Convertible. Since everyone enjoyed those pictures, we thought that we would post some more today.
We had some questions from a few of you about the paint. We used a base coat/clear coat. In some of these pictures, you can see the steps of the application of the seam sealer, the white sealer coat, the color base code, and the clear coat.
The next step will be sanding and buffing the paint. We should have more on this in a post next week.
Oh, again, keep in mind that these are just quick snapshots, so the lighting really plays games with that Poppy Red color. It really is all the same color!!
Thanks for visiting!
We started this Blog to share pictures, show new parts, and just talk about 64 1/2-73 Mustangs. We love to feature Customer Cars also. If you would like to see your Classic Mustang right here on our Blog, send us an email by clicking here to find out how!!

1965 289 High Performance Mustang Convertible
We now have most all of the painting completed on our K Code Mustang Convertible.
Check out the latest pictures. Please note that the color is Poppy Red, but the flash and light do some weird things with this color when you are just shooting quick snap shots like this. Anyway, take a look...

65-69 Mustang Silicone Radiator Hose Set
Here is a neat part set that we just got in. We just got a few, but more will be arriving. This hose set includes the upper and lower radiator hoses along with the bypass hose. It will fit most 65-69 Mustangs with the bolt in radiator and small block (260, 289, 302) engine.
These are nylon reinforced black silicone hoses. Silicone lasts longer and has a higher burst pressure than regular rubber hoses. Lower hose also has a stainless steel spring.
These silicone hoses have been very popular on late model Mustangs, and now you can get them for your early model.

69-70 Mustang Battery Apron Reinforcement Plate
The Battery Aprons (our part number SM967) for the 69-70 Mustangs do not come with the reinforcement plate under the apron. This plate was originally welded to the under side of the battery apron to strenghten the area that the battery tray bolts to.
These plates just arrived and can now be purchased separately since they do not come with the apron. They are always needed when battery apron replacement is required.

65-66 Mustang Tail Light Bodies
Sometimes we use this space to just go into a little more detail about a particular part. Today, we are going to look at the 65-66 Mustang Tail Light Body.
It seems like the tail light bodies on these model Mustangs are always a bit rusty. Cosmetically, yeah, you could always throw a little silver paint on them, but these new ones are really nice. They even feature very nice clear zinc plating like the originals.
Even more importantly, they work well! Original Mustang tail light body sockets are often corroded. The sockets in these assemblies are just like the originals, and they work great.
Another problem with old originals is the fact that the studs sometimes are loose. These new bodies feature nicely pressed in studs like the originals.
You should be aware that there is also more than one reproduction on the market. We only handle the Scott Drake brand. We have found that these are far superior to the other brand on the market.

65-66 Mustang Ashtray
We recently had the opportunity to install a 65-66 Mustang In Dash Ash Tray. This is our part number IN87. This ash tray is really nice and certainly is a nice detail to add to your Mustang restoration. It features really nice zinc plating, correctly riveted sliders, and a nice fitting front cover panel.

289 High Performance Mustang Convertible
Here is the latest update on our K Code 65 Mustang Convertible.
We have the trunk area painted now. All of the proper sealers were applied before paint duplicating several original Mustangs that were produced in the same plant, around the same date. Next step is painting the outside body and the backs of the trunk, hood and doors. We are getting very close to winding up the paint part!!

1966 GT350 Shelby Mustang Bullet Outside Mirror
Original Mirror shown above.
Most of the 1966 Shelby GT350 Mustangs came equipped with a unique outside mirror that is commonly referred to as a "bullet" mirror. This mirror is a popular addition to any 1965-68 Mustang.
We have two versions of this mirror. We have a USA Made part (Part number ER1991) and also an import (Part number ER199) .So what is the difference? Well, both have fantastic looking chrome plating and include both the gasket and mounting screws.
The big difference is the "head" of the mirror. The USA Made part is like original, but the import version's adjustable mirror part is located a bit farther out than the original.
Which should you buy? If you have an original Shelby, I would definitely purchase the USA part. If you don't, you can save some dollars and just purchase the import. The import is actually even a bit easier to adjust, has great chrome, and, of course, costs less.
If you have more questions, give us a call.

This kit is our part number IN15381.
We also still have the kit for Mustangs not equipped with Air Conditioning - part number IN1538.

1965 Mustang HiPo Convertible Update
Here are some more pictures of our K Code Mustang Convertible project. These show the next step in our painting procedure that involved blacking out the engine compartment area and painting and blacking out the rear wheel well area.
All of the patterns were determined by looking at many cars produced around the same time period in the Dearborn plant. If you have not been following along, this car was produced in August of 1964.
It is interesting to note that while the underside was a fairly glossy black, the engine compartment was blacked out with a lower gloss. You will note that the rear wheel well area received undercoating black out. This was surprisingly originally applied fairly neatly without even getting on the rear frame rail. We tried to duplicate that process here.
The next update should cover the finish painting of the trunk area.

LED Lights for Your Classic Mustang
Adding LED Tail Lights and Parking Lights have never been easier with our new LED Light Kits. Each light consists of a complete sealed unit. They are incredibly easy to install-you just plug them in as you would a light bulb. The LED's not only look cool, they are much brighter and easier to see than the stock bulb, so it is a nice safety feature.
The Parking Light is also available for 65-66 models. You can use this only in '65 models with gauges or all '66 models. The Tail Lights can be used in all models.
The 69 Model Tail Light even includes the Stainless Steel Trim Pieces on the Lens.Click on the one you need to order below:
