Which radiator should I buy for my Mustang...2 or 3 row?

You can't go wrong with either one! Bigger is not necessarily better...our two row version features massive 1.25 inch tubes in the core for performance cooling. Tests have shown that they cool slightly better than the three row versions.
If you would rather have the three row version, we have that one too. Our three row version also features larger than normal .75 inch tubes for great flow and cooling.
Either one will easily out cool an old or stock copper / brass radiator.

Mustang Radiator Tags - San Jose Plant

We have gotten quite a few requests from the 1966 GT350 Shelby guys about the radiator tags.  We now keep these in stock.  Our part number is EG-2596.

These tags are for the V8 radiators originally installed in Mustangs built at the San Jose Ford plant.  The "G2" number is always found on the 4 speed equipped GT350's, and it is possible that those designated radiators may have been used in some other manual transmission equipped Mustangs.

It is also interesting to note that this tag was not used on radiators until around the 10 65 date stamped ones. Ones stamped before this time had the C4ZE G2 number stamped into the tank itself as shown in the picture below.

1965 Mustang High Performance Convertible Project Update

We are working on our early '65 HiPo Mustang Convertible again.  Today we will look specifically at the restoration of the radiator.

We handle and sell lots of Mustang Radiators.  We have the Aluminum Radiators and the regular, stock style brass/copper radiators.  These radiators are great, but if you just have to have one exactly like the original, like we did, you have to restore an original.

Radiator styles originally were different depending upon the particular plant where the Mustang was built.  Our HiPo Convertible is a Dearborn production Mustang.

The Dearborn radiators had the side rails stamped with the part number and the date, as opposed to the San Jose radiators which were date stamped on the top tank.  The top tank "straps" were squared off instead of rounded.  We were lucky to find a restorable piece and had it carefully recored to match an original radiator.  Jeremy at Maple Hill Restoration (540-896-9024) then prepared and painted the radiator.

Jeremy continues to work on the Mustang, and we will have more updates soon.

Here is our radiator.  It has been properly recored and prepared for paint.

Notice the "squared off" top straps on the Dearborn production Mustang radiator.  Our radiator guy did a great job soldering the straps to leave the detail like the "X" in the top tank.

1964 1/2-Early 65 Mustang Radiator Cap

When restoring any car, the little details count! The SMCO (Stant Manufacturing Company) radiator cap has long been accepted as the "correct" radiator cap for most all of the 65 and 66 Mustangs. I have definitely seen the SMCO cap on most all San Jose plant produced cars which, of course, include the 65 and 66 GT-350 Shelbys.

Lots of folks may not know that AC radiator caps were also used on Mustangs. Yes, AC - the brand normally associated with Chevrolets and other GM products.

I have observed a few different variations of AC radiator caps on various Mustangs, but the early Dearborn built Mustangs, usually had the RC-6 AC cap that is pictured above.

This radiator cap is now available as a very nice reproduction. If you have a 64 1/2 or fairly early 65 Mustang, particularly a Dearborn built car, this cap would be correct for your car.

It is available under our part number EG1991. It features a zinc plating like the original.

Mustang (and other Fords too!) Radiator Overflow Hose

Here is a neat item that just arrived. It is the Radiator Overflow Rubber Hose. This hose is used on Mustangs, of course, and tons of other older Ford cars. It is made just like the original with the thick wall and the ribs. It's just a really cool little detail part.

We have two different part numbers for this. The only difference between the two numbers is the length of the hose that you receive.

EG2591 is listed for the 65-66 Mustang. With this kit, you receive 29 inches of hose. You actually need about 28 1/4 inches. Click here or on the part number to order.

EG2592 is listed for the 67-70 Mustang. This kit has 36 inches of hose. There were several different radiators in this range of years, so the extra length here may be needed. Click here or on the part number to order.

Mustang Radiator Fan Spacers

Finally!!! We now have a very nice, original looking fan spacer for your Mustang. When you install a larger (thicker core) radiator in your car, it is often necessary to use a shorter fan spacer. Up until now, you had to use one of those "universal" style spacers. They do the job, but it is a whole lot nicer to use an original looking fan spacer.

We just got these in. They look just like originals and are 2 1/4 inches in length. They are available in a natural aluminum finish like the original and a cool custom polished aluminum finish.

Aluminum Radiator for 65-66 Mustang with later model engine

OK, you've got a '70 or later 302 engine or maybe a late model 5.0 engine in your 1965 or 1966 Mustang. You want to cool it with a nice radiator. The outlets on the original 65-66 radiator are both on the passenger's side. With the later engines, the bottom outlet is on the driver's side.

We just got these new aluminum radiators in that will solve the problem. These are just like our other very popular aluminum radiators.

Here is the description:

This radiator has the top outlet on the passenger's side and the bottom outlet on the driver's side for 65-66 model car with a later (70-up) 302 engine. It also has a automatic transmission cooler in bottom tank, but can be used on manual transmission car by plugging the holes.
Features extra large one inch tubes for 4 row efficiency but with 5-7 lbs. less weight. We also added a baffle at the top to help evenly distribute the flow of hot water across the upper part of the radiator. The original radiators had a real problem distributing the hot water to the far left side of the radiator. We have tested our design and recorded significant changes in the temperatures across the radiator's cooling tubes.
This radiator will bolt in just like the original.

71-73 Mustang Radiator Bracket Mounting Pad Set

We now have the rubber mounting pads for the 1971-73 Mustang radiator. These have never been reproduced until now. They are exact reproductions made using the original Ford blue prints.

We also have the mounting brackets (EG2064.) They were mentioned in a previous blog post.

The pad set is a set of four. One set is needed per car. Order part number EG2065.

71-73 Mustang Lower Radiator Mounting Brackets

Here is another new part that just arrived. These are the Lower Radiator Mounting Brackets for the 1971-73 model Mustangs. The originals are usually rusty. These are exact reproductions that are zinc plated to prevent rusting.

They feature extra large one inch tubes for 4 row efficiency but with 5-7 lbs. less weight. The size of the tubes in a row are really more important than the number of rows, and these are big!

These aluminum radiators also have a baffle at the top (see picture below) to help evenly distribute the flow of hot water across the upper part of the radiator. Many radiators have a real problem distribuing the hot water to the far left side of the radiator. The design of this radiator has been tested and significant changes have been recorded in the temperatures across the radiator's cooling tubes.

These aluminum radiators are also manufactured for specific models, so they will bolt right in just like the original!
