1965-69 Mustang and Shelby Muffler / Resonator Hanger Bracket

'65-69 Mustangs (and, of course, Shelbys) equipped with factory dual exhaust had two brackets with studs to hang the muffler (65-66) and resonator (67-69) brackets from the floor pan. These brackets install from the interior under the rear seat.

We now have two different versions. Our economy style brackets work great and are very close to the originals but are not 100% like the originals.

We now have new brackets available that are 100% exactly like the originals...right down to the dog point ends on the studs and the correct lock nuts.

The GT, HiPo, GT350 Shelby, and other Mustangs with factory dual exhaust originally had a reinforcement plate welded on the rear floor underneath the rear seat.  This plate's purpose was to provide reinforcement for the muffler hangers that hung from here.

There was a plate on each side.  The '65 Mustang plate is different from the '66 only because the '65 does not have the extra hole for inside rear seat belt mount.  These new plates are made in the USA out of the proper gauge metal.  Care has even been taken to duplicate the original wrinkles on the bottom halves.  Holes are properly placed and drilled in each piece.

The reproductions of the 65-67 Mustang 289 High Performance Exhaust Manifolds have been out of production for a while now.  Not only do we have them back in stock, we have new ones that are now Made in the USA!

These manifolds offer a great advantage over the stock exhaust manifolds without the disadvantage of fitting headers.  Will fit any 289, 302 or 351W Ford Engine with stock style heads.  These manifolds feature the correct fit, finish and fit along with original casting numbers cast into each manifold.  The left side has the C3OZ-9431-B casting number, and the right side has the C4ZE-9430-A casting number.

These are made from premium quality alloy to resist cracking.

We have been posting about our original paint 1964 1/2 289 High Performance Mustang Coupe.  There are a lot of original pieces still on this car, which provides a great resource for studying original details on Mustangs.

 Today, we will take a look at the transverse muffler style dual exhaust system.  This style of exhaust was originally installed on the 64 1/2 and early 65 HiPo Mustang up through sometime in maybe October of 1964.

We are lucky to have the complete original exhaust system on this particular Mustang.  You will note the original date stampings of June 1964 on the muffler and resonators.

New from Scott Drake are our 304 Stainless Steel, Tri-Y Headers. All tubes are CNC mandrel bent, then carefully placed in our precision-engineered welding jig for a perfect assembly and fit. They have been successfully tested on multiple applications and we have found them superior in quality to previous suppliers. These fit 1965-68 automatic & manual transmission Mustangs with equipped with 260, 289, or 302 engines.  Extra clearance has been provided for various starters and there is no interference with the shock towers.

Other features include mounting flange bolts that can also be easily accessed. In addition, these headers provides full articulation of steering assembly w/out interference.

*Note: Power Steering cars do require our EH-37 drop down bracket.

Over forty years of Mustang modifications have resulted in endless configurations and drivetrain combinations, but we believe this product offers the best overall fit available. Dual Exhaust for Your Classic Mustang

One of our most popular parts is the dual exhaust system. Adding a dual exhaust system is also one of the most popular additions or modifications made to classic Mustangs.

We could literally write pages about the different styles, H-pipes, tips, hangers, etc. that we offer.

This post will be just a general overview of the basic systems concerning sound.

The stock systems are just that-they sound stock. Actually, that is a very good, mellow sound. If you are doing the stock show car or you just like the original sound, this is the way to go.

Our Turbo systems use turbo style mufflers that give you a bit louder sound, but not obnoxious at all. This is definitely the way to go if you want something just a bit louder.

Our Flowmaster systems are a step up in the loudness department. They definitely have a much "throatier" sound than the Turbo or the stock systems.

Keep in mind that none of our systems are "universal" systems. They all are made in such a way that they have the stock style brackets preinstalled. This allows the use of all of the factory style hangers. This provides just a so much cleaner look than a univeral system. Our supplier specializes in Mustang Exhaust Systems, and we have been very pleased with these products.

Correct Mustang Exhaust Clamps

We recently had some discussion about the correct exhaust clamps to use on your Mustang. Please keep in mind that this post concerns 65-66 GT, High Performance and factory dual exhaust equipped cars with the more common 65-66 Factory GT Exhaust System as pictured above. The reason I mention this is because there were earlier style High Performance Dual Exhaust Systems on the 289 High Performance Mustangs before the GT package was introduced in the early spring of 1965. The clamp pictured above is our part number EH261. This "band" style clamp is used to attach the rear tail pipe/tip to the rear hanger assembly.

The above clamp is a very nice detail for an authentic Mustang restoration. It is the clamp that originally attached the H-Pipe to the intermediate pipe. It, of course, can be used in other areas also. This is our part number EH931. As you can see, this clamp has the nice "FoMoCo" stamping detail along with the unique, original shape and design.

By the way, we have these in 2 1/8 and 2 1/4 inch sizes also.

This last clamp is quite unique. This is the clamp that attaches the GT Exhaust Tip or turn down tip (in the case of a not-GT 289 High Performance Mustang or 66 GT350) to the tail pipe. Our part number on this clamp is EH53.

Does Your 65-66 Mustang have Factory Dual Exhaust?

Dual exhaust was factory installed on GT equipped and 289 High Performance 65-66 Mustangs. It is, of course, a popular add on now. If you are interested in the details, you may want to know how to tell if a 1965 or 1966 Mustang came from the factory with dual exhaust.

One way to tell is to pull out the rear seat. Here, a convertible is pictured, but this detail appears the same on the Fastback and Coupe models also. Take a look at the arrows. They are pointing to a "reinforcement" piece of sheet metal that is not found on factory single exhaust models.

This is just one of those interesting details. For you guys and gals not into those types of details, I'll just say that it is not necessary to have these plates welded on your floor pan to add dual exhaust. It is no problem adding the factory hangers and plates in the same location on a Mustang that was not originally equipped that way.

FoMoCo Stamped Exhaust Clamps

These clamps are really nice. They are a great addition for that "last detail" on a great restoration. The clamps are Ford Licensed and made just like the originals. They feature the correct FoMoCo stamping and come with the correct nuts.
