Let's go way back to 1985.

SFM6S584 was one of 85 four speed equipped 1966 Hertz GT350 Shelbys.

We purchased it in the early 1980s and restored it.

Craig Naff even had a hand in the restoration...that was before his CadZZilla days!

It appeared on our Virginia Classic Mustang Inc Fall/Winter 1985/1986 Catalog.

The car showed up several years ago when Marcus Anghel at Anghel Restorations was commissioned to re-restore it for a client.

I am super excited to bring you some images showing the restoration of 1965 GT350 Mustang (Shelby) SFM5S375.

In the past, I have featured tons of restoration photos showcasing the work of Jeremy Turner from Maple Hill Restoration. More are posted here, but the best thing about this car is that it's Jeremy's own personal GT350.

Usually the guy who does great restoration work does not have time to work on his own car, but here it is! I'm looking forward to sharing more pictures of this restoration.

These particular photos show the car in the "painting stages." The colors and overspray patterns have been painstakingly reproduced in a way often not seen. By that I'm not only talking about the high quality of the work, but the fact that all of this was based on what was originally applied to this particular car. None of the colors or methods were copied from another restoration.

Many of these photos show the colors, overspray patterns, and a few unique GT350 Shelby features like the detail of the spare tire hold down, axle bumper brackets, and cut out in the dash for the tach and oil pressure gauges.

This hole was used to hold down the body on the assembly line. The area around the hole did not get paint.

1966 GT350 Hertz Mustang Shelby with a Blown Chevrolet Engine

I saw this car back in the day and took a picture of it, but I never could find it.

I just ran across this article about the car.

It's 6S819, a 1966 GT350H (Hertz Rent-a-Car) Mustang Shelby that at one time had a small block Chevy engine topped with a supercharger.

A few months ago, we made a post outlining the "refurbishment" of a 1965 GT350 Mustang Shelby in the shop at Maple Hill Restoration. The car just turned out great and so much of its originality has been preserved. Any more, it is rare to come across an early GT350 in such nice, original condition, so to see another one is just fantastic.

The GT350 in this post was recently purchased by a good friend and customer. It was brought to Jeremy at Maple Hill Restoration for a refurbishment very similar to the one in the post above.

We are not calling it a "restoration," because that is not what it is going to be. Again, every bit of it's originality to going to be preserved.

How about those elusive 15 x 6 steel wheels that even wear their original paint!!

We also have an image of a seldom seen original paint inspection stamping from the LH front fender.

Just the Details...1965 GT350 Mustang Shelby

As you know, we love early GT350 Mustangs. We have a lot of favorites, and this is certainly one of them. This car is owned by one of our great customers, and has been painstakingly "refurbished" by Jeremy at Maple Hill Restoration.

While some folks (particularly several years ago) would completely restore this car, fortunately, the owner and Jeremy made just the right decisions to get it "back in shape."

Most of the paint is original and many finishes remain that way. Other items were replaced or restored. This combination resulted in what you see here...a perfectly functioning '65 GT350 with lots of originality that tells a story.

Even the original Shelby Cragar wheels have been carefully cleaned rather than re-rimmed.

The car also features the complete original drivetrain that has all now been rebuilt.

Check out the captions under each image for more details. Some of those images show things like the original rear end tag, the original Ray Brown seat belts, the original dated rear leaf springs, the original finish on the floor pans, and more!
