Rare 1965-66 Mustang AM-FM Radio

It has been over 2 years since we posted this. I thought that it was worth another look. One of the rarest options for a 1966 Mustang was the AM-FM Radio. I believe that the first one that I purchased about 20 years ago was around $450.00. Recently, they have brought way more than that. Of course, now there is the nice reproduction available at a reasonable price.

This post is more about a very unusual AM-FM Radio that I purchased a long, long time ago. All of the original units that everyone is familiar with had "FORD" engraved on the slide bar. Well, I have a radio that actually has "MUSTANG" on the slide bar. I've shown the pictures to many people, but no one seems to have ever seen one like it or know the story behind it.

It is a very early unit with a March 5, 1965 stamping. It also appears to have originally had a black painted chassis. Here are some pictures of the radio along with some pictures of a "regular" AM-FM with the FORD on the slide bar.

The below pictures show the "MUSTANG" Slide Bar with the more polished or rounded edges.

This picture shows the "sharper" edges of the FORD slide bar.

The FORD Slide Bar also has a deeper engraving than the MUSTANG one.

Customer Car-1965 Mustang Fastback

This 1965 Honey Gold Mustang Fastback rolled off the San Jose plant assembly line around October 29, 1964. It was shipped to Downey Auto Center in Downey, CA. They are still in business! On November 6, 1964, Ms. Kittie Williams purchased the car and drove it home to Whittier, CA. The original owner's manual is still with the car with this information.

The current owner is Chris Valentino. Chris' dad, Joe, kindly shared these pictures and information with us to feature here on the blog.

It's a great looking car!

Joe has a great car too. He also sent us this image of his 1966 "Hertz Rent a Racer"-one of the original 66 GT-350H Shelbys.

We would love to see and hear more about YOUR car!! We don't care if your Mustang is restored, original, under restoration, or still in the barn! We want to hear about it. Got something you want to share? Just click here and tell us about it, and we will tell you how to send more information.

1965 289 K Code Mustang Project

Here are the latest images from our 1965 Mustang 289 HiPo Restoration. The paint is being sanded and buffed. The process starts with 800 grit sandpaper and progresses until the fine 3000 grit is used. Then it is buffed with two different compounds.

It is really difficult to capture this with a few pictures but take a look!

Over the next few months, we will have lots more pictures. We are expecting lots of items back from the plating shops soon. After the buffing process is completed, the assembly will begin! Stay tuned...

Boss Mustang and Shelby Cruise In

Every year, Larry Boyd puts on a great "cruise in" for Boss Mustang and Shelby vehicles. It is always held around one the the first Saturdays in May in the Richmond, VA area. It was held this past Saturday. It is called a "cruise in," because it is a laid back event with no judging, entry fees, trophies - just folks hanging out and enjoying the cars. One of these years, we are going to have attend.

Enjoy the pictures!

Dual Exhaust for Your Classic Mustang

One of our most popular parts is the dual exhaust system. Adding a dual exhaust system is also one of the most popular additions or modifications made to classic Mustangs.

We could literally write pages about the different styles, H-pipes, tips, hangers, etc. that we offer.

This post will be just a general overview of the basic systems concerning sound.

The stock systems are just that-they sound stock. Actually, that is a very good, mellow sound. If you are doing the stock show car or you just like the original sound, this is the way to go.

Our Turbo systems use turbo style mufflers that give you a bit louder sound, but not obnoxious at all. This is definitely the way to go if you want something just a bit louder.

Our Flowmaster systems are a step up in the loudness department. They definitely have a much "throatier" sound than the Turbo or the stock systems.

Keep in mind that none of our systems are "universal" systems. They all are made in such a way that they have the stock style brackets preinstalled. This allows the use of all of the factory style hangers. This provides just a so much cleaner look than a univeral system. Our supplier specializes in Mustang Exhaust Systems, and we have been very pleased with these products.

Give us a call or check out our web site for all the systems available.
