Hertz Shelby with MICO Master Cylinder Brake Line Sets Now Available

In 1966, the Hertz Rent-a-Car Corporation purchased 1000 '66 GT350 Shelbys from Shelby American. Most were painted in the familiar black with gold stripes paint scheme, but there were also white, red, blue, and green ones.

In order to make the effort a bit easier for braking, most of these cars were converted to a special master cylinder made by MICO. We now have brake line kits for these Shelbys.

Like our other Mustang Brake Line Kits, they are available in either standard steel (like OE) or stainless steel.

1965-66 Mustang and Shelby GT350 Side Scoop Set. We now have new and improved side scoops that fit great! Now you can confidently purchase these to replace the missing or heavily damaged scoops on even the finest 1966 Shelby restoration. They are also a great addition to any '65-66 Mustang.

These concours reproduction side scoops are exact replicas of the scoops originally equipped on '66 Shelby GT350s. They are made from new tooling using hand laid fiberglass and finished in a smooth white primer ready for prep and paint. Unlike the light weight economy reproductions, these scoops are made thicker like the originals to provide maximum durability and a sturdy mounting surface.

They can be riveted on like the originals or bonded on for owners who don't want to drill holes in their quarter panels.

We have these again! Exact copy of the original brake hose bracket for a '65 and '66 Mustang (or Shelby) with factory dual exhaust.

In 1965 and 1966, Mustangs equipped with factory dual exhaust used a different rear brake hose than the single exhaust cars, so the hose would not interfere with the exhaust. Not only was the brake hose unique, but the mounting location was also different. These factory dual exhaust cars were built with a unique bracket mounted to the floor pan.

Our original supplier quit making them, so we decided to have them made ourselves. They are made of heavy gauge steel, like the originals.

NEW! 65-66 Mustang Brake Pedal Rubber Bumper

You know, this is a really small part, but when you need one, they are difficult to find!

It's the small rubber bumper on the brake pedal of every 1965 and 1966 Mustang. It doesn't matter if it's a 6 cylinder or a 289 HiPo, manual transmission or automatic - they all had this little bumper on the pedal.

The original Ford part number is MA-7583. They are made in the USA, and we now have them in stock.

Just the Details...1966 Shelby Mustang GT350

If you have been following our Blog posts about the "freshening up" of our 1966 Shelby, you are familiar with this car. We are trying to clean it up and preserve many of the original areas of the car. This is being accomplished successfully by Jeremy Turner at Maple Hill Restoration.

In the concern of safety, some parts are being restored. The brake system is one of these parts. We are completely restoring the brake system on the Shelby. This will include new metal brake lines and hoses along with rebuilds of the brake calipers, master cylinder and wheel cylinders.

The original disc brake calipers were still with the Shelby and are even date coded. Below is a picture of the date stamping on one of the calipers showing "46 -6". This is the 46th day of 1966 which was February 15, 1966.

The calipers will receive our BK-1501 Complete 65-66 Mustang Caliper Rebuild Kit, which includes new pistons, o-rings, dust boots, retainers, bolts and washers.

65-66 Mustang Rear Brake Hose Bracket for Factory Dual Exhaust

We now have the rear brake hose bracket for the 1965 and 1966 Mustang and Shelbys equipped with factory dual exhaust. This bracket is made just like the original from heavy gauge steel.

It welds to the floor pan as shown in the image above. The factory dual exhaust equipped Mustangs used the BK112 Rear Brake Hose and this bracket was used to re-locate the inlet of the hose.

1965 and 1966 Mustang Front Disc Brake Splash Shields

This is a great brand new part that has never been available as a reproduction. These new Front Disc Brake Splash Shields / Backing Plates are made just like the original 65-66 Mustang and Shelby design plates. The previous reproductions are actually copied from the '67 Mustang style splash shields. These '67 are still available and will actually fit 65-66 Mustangs while offering better venting.

Now you can replace your missing, pitted or bent original splash shields with these new, correct shields.

The part number on the new correct 65-66 style brake shields for the Mustang is BK-3481. These are sold as a pair.

The 67 Mustang style shields are sold individually. The part numbers are BK-348L and BK-348R.

65-66 Mustang and Shelby Disc Brake Proportioning Valves

I am re-posting this Blog post that was originally published in December of 2010. It was one of our more popular posts, and I've sent it to several people just this week.

If you are really into the detail end of the 65-66 Mustang and Shelbys, you may find this post interesting. A Kelsey Hayes disc brake proportioning valve was originally installed on the 65-66 Mustangs with factory front disc brakes.

Rather than discuss the function of this part, this post is more about the detail and restoration. There seems to be a widely held thought that this valve was originally a bluish-gray color. All of the New Old Stock / Ford Service parts that I have seen are certainly this color, and perhaps some of the ones originally installed on the assembly line were also this color.

I do have evidence though, that at least some of these valves were originally finished in black paint. I have seen several other original examples that were black, including the one on an early '66 GT350 (SFM6S033). This GT350 will be featured here on our Virginia Classic Mustang Blog soon. I have also seen a black one on a much later production '66 GT350 (near the very end of the '66 GT350 production.)

The "end discs" on these valves are dated. The numbers indicate the day of the year along with the year.

We have brand new 65-67 Front Disc Brake Calipers for Mustangs, but some of you may be interested in rebuilding your original calipers. We have always had the pistons and rubber seals to rebuild calipers, but now we have a kit that will also save you money.
