1964 Ford Mustang Production Plant in Milpitas, CA (San Jose)

This PDF document was found online by friend who posted the link on the SAAC Forum.  The direct link can be found by clicking here.

It shows pictures of the Ford Assembly Plant in Milpitas, CA, referred to as the San Jose assembly plant.  As the document explains, this plant was converted totally over to Mustang production with the first Mustangs rolling off of the line on July 10, 1964.

Sorry, but I did not want to post the pictures here without permission, but click on the link above to see them.

We now have the rubber textured door panel cup inserts for both the short and long style cups.  These are the cups used on '69 and '70 Mach 1 Mustangs and Mustangs equipped with deluxe interior door panels.  The long style cups were used on most '69's.  The short style cups are found on late '69 Mustangs and '70 Mustangs.

Just the Details...65-66 Mustang Door Hinges

1965-66 Mustang Door Hinge.
www.VirginiaClassicMustang.com

I started these "Just the Details..." posts here a while back.  Some of them might be a bit "geeky" for some of our readers' tastes, and this post just might qualify.

Today, we will look at two different designs of door hinges used during the 1965-66 Mustang production.  The pictures explain it best, but the earlier design is a "straight cut" design and the later ones have a beveled edge as shown.  Please keep in mind that all of the NOS Ford Service Replacement door hinges for '65 and '66 Mustangs that I have seen are the later beveled design.  These door hinges were available several years ago and are often seen on previously restored cars.  This is just an important note to point out when trying to determine what your Mustang original came with.

Sometimes it is difficult to tell when changes like this took place, and this change is no exception.  We have found the "early" design on a January 1965 Dearborn production Mustang, and I suspect we may find them later than that.  We are still looking into this and would certainly welcome any feedback from our readers, and please keep in mind my note about the Ford Service Parts being the beveled design.

We love to feature customer cars here, and this one is a rare one!  It is a 68 428 CJ Mustang Coupe.  These cars were often purchased to drag race and are difficult to find in nice condition like this one.  The original window sticker and paper work are great bonuses!

Mustang Ratchet Style Jack Handle Wrench

This is the reproduction of the early Mustang Ratcheting Jack Handle Wrench.  It features nice clear/silver zinc plating.  It is a very authentic reproduction of the original.

This is a view showing the "open ended" style handle on the reproduction of the early Mustang Ratcheting Jack Handle Wrench.
www.VirginiaClassicMustang.com

This is not a new item, but I thought it deserved a Blog post.  The 1965-67 Mustang originally came with a ratchet style jack handle wrench.  It was a very weak design, and I always suggest only using one for "show."

There are several versions.  The earlier style has an "open end" handle.  The late style that appeared sometime in the '65 model run has a "closed end" handle.  There was also a style, that I think appeared later, with a straight, rather that angled as shown in these pictures, head.

Note the "closed" style handle on this Mustang Ratcheting Jack Handle Wrench.  This one appeared sometime during the 1965 model year production.

The reproduction that we have is the earlier style "open end" handle Mustang Jack Wrench.  It is our part number ST-279.

Mustang Tie Rod Ends

Mustang Tie Rod End.
www.VirginiaClassicMustang.com

As I have pointed out before, all Mustang parts are not created equal!  We offer many parts in two different versions-a nice, but cheaper version and then a show or higher quality version.

One part that we do not offer in a "lesser quality" version is the Mustang suspension tie rod end.  The automotive suspension market has exploded with cheap, imported versions of various parts.  Tie rod ends are included on this list.  For the price difference, we just don't think it is worth handling the cheap stuff.

All of our Mustang Tie Rod Ends are US Made Moog® or equivalent quality parts.

65-66 Mustang Ford VIN stampings

Ford VIN stamping locations on 1965 and 1966 Mustangs.
www.VirginiaClassicMustang.com

Here lately, quite a few people have had questions about the locations of the Ford VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) on 1965 and 1966 Mustangs.

We put together the above image for reference.

Please note that there are variations and "factory mistakes" that may present exceptions to the rule.  We have also seen quite a few examples where one or both of those rear stampings are at locations that allow them to be seen even when the fenders are on the car.
