Just the Details...1966 Shelby GT350 Mustang Restoration

1966 Carryover GT350 Mustang Shelby Restoration
www.VirginiaClassicMustang.com

Our early '66 GT350 Mustang Shelby (carryover GT350) project continues to make lots of progress. It's always exciting to get to the point in a complete restoration where the hood, bumpers, trim, and other finishing items get installed. It really starts looking like a complete car again!

If you missed our last post about the car, please check out this link. These pictures are all from January of 2017. Since our last post, the fenders and hood have been installed. The bumpers are on the car and more.

Be sure to read bits of information under each picture before opening the larger versions of these pictures. We have more pictures that will be posted next week.

Just as a reminder, this car is serial number 33 (SFM6S033), one of the early batches of carryover Shelbys. These cars began life as 1965 Mustangs, but were built as 1966 GT350 Shelbys. For more about the carryover Shelbys, see www.carryovergt350.com.

The early '66 Shelbys did not have a hood latch. In order to support the grill, these two unique braces were bolted on.

The earlier '66 Shelbys featured "override" traction bars. Brackets were welded on the rear end housing, holes were cut in the floor, inside brackets were welded to the floor, and the traction bars were installed. Rubber was pop riveted over the holes. The entire assembly was then covered with these crude fiberglass boxes.

Another Cool New Mustang Part! FoMoCo Stamped Stainless Steel Hose Clamp Set

We have the correct tower style Wittek hose clamps, but if you want easy to use and re-usable clamps, you may want to consider our new worm gear hose clamps. These aren't just any hose clamps either! They are the perfect "finishing touch" to your Mustang with the cool FoMoCo logo right on the top. Note: Only the small fuel line clamps do not have the FoMoCo logo.

They are not generic hose clamps. These clamps are sized properly for a clean look with no excess "tail" after tightening. Stainless steel construction means they won't rust.

Sets for small block Fords (260, 289, 302, 351W) are currently available. A set includes the following clamps:

  • 2 lower radiator 2 1/8" clamps
  • 2 upper radiator 2" clamps
  • 6 heater hose / thermostat bypass hose 5/8" clamps
  • 6 fuel line / gas sending unit 5/16"-3/8" clamps

Note: These will not fit a 6 cylinder. Kit will work on big blocks with the exception of one lower radiator hose clamp at the water pump (it is too small).

Our part number is PE-102S. Check them out by clicking here.
