1969 Mustang Boss 302 Barn Find

"Barn Finds" or "Survivor" cars certainly seem to be the rage these days.  This 1969 Mustang Boss 302 seems to be the latest.  This particular example was listed on Ebay and has been making the rounds on the Internet. It is described as sitting for 30 years and recently purchased from the owner of 42 years.

It just sold on Ebay for $74,100!!!

On Christmas morning of 1964, Edsel Ford II, the great-grandson of Ford Motor Company's founder, Henry Ford, received quite a unique gift for his December 27th 16th birthday.  His father, Henry Ford II, then CEO and president of Ford Motor Company gave him this 1965 289 High Performance Mustang Fastback.

His father had the Mustang specially modified with custom pearl white paint, rally and GT striping, functional hood scoop, custom grill, custom interior, and many other items to make this car very unique.  The gas cap even sported Edsel's initials.

Can you imagine getting this car for your 16th birthday??!!  Wow!!!  What a cool Mustang!!

It was used as Edsel's daily driver as he finished high school and started college.  Unfortunately, the car was destroyed four years later, although no one was hurt, in an accident when it was borrowed by a friend of Edsel's.

Just the Details...1966 GT350 Shelby Mustang

6S1732 - 1966 GT350 - Green - 4 spd. - Painted Magnum 500 wheels.
www.VirginiaClassicMustang.com
Last month, we posted about our recently acquired 1966 GT350 Shelby.  If you missed the post, you can click here to read it.  We usually post here about cars that are receiving full blown restorations. This one is going to be a bit different.

Since this is a nice, original 80K mile car, we have decided just to clean some things up and use it as a "driver".  In doing so, we are using most all of the original parts in their present, but cleaned up, condition.  Of course, there are several parts that we will be replacing like the gas tank.  The previous owner installed an imported reproduction gas tank.  We are replacing this with one of our concours quality gas tanks.

We will also be installing an older Ford NOS dual exhaust system, new brake lines and hoses, new front to rear gas lines, and other items as needed.

Jeremy at Maple Hill Restoration (www.MapleHillResto.com) is handling the job and carefully cleaning the original parts.  He's also buffing the paint.  Some of it is original, but the majority appears to have been re-sprayed with lacquer in the late sixties.

Here are some pictures showing some "geeky details" on the car like the dates on the rear bumper and license light, the DSO marking on the tail light panel, original Ray Brown seat belts, and the brake cooling ducts.

Original "DSO 290" marking on the rear tail light panel of the Shelby.  Also note the original rear valance screws with the flat one under the bumper guard.  We have seen this on other cars.

That's just dirt that has come in around the brake cooling duct over the years.  The duct appears to have never been originally sealed.  Also when it was originally riveted, it didn't get tight.

Happy Holidays from Virginia Classic Mustang!

www.VirginiaClassicMustang.com

I love this, so I've been posting it for the past several years.  I found it somewhere on the Internet and tweaked it a bit. I don't know the author (sorry), but it is pretty cool!

Happy Holidays from Virginia Classic Mustang!

'Twas the night before Christmas and in the garage,

There wasn't a trace of a Chevy or a Dodge.

The presents were wrapped and the lights were all lit,

So I figured I'd mess with the ‘Stang for a bit.

I popped out the hood pins and I lifted the hood,

When a deep voice behind me said "looks pretty good."

Well, as you can imagine, I turned mighty quick,

And there, by the workbench, stood good ol’ Saint Nick!

We stood there a bit, not too sure what to say,

Then he said "don't suppose that you'd trade for my sleigh?

I said "no way, Santa" and started to grin,

"But if you've got the time we could go for a spin!"

His round little mouth, all tied up like a bow,

Turned into a smile and he said "hey! Let's go!!"

So as not to disturb all the neighbors' retreat,

We pushed the Mustang quietly into the street,

Then, taking our places to drift down the hill,

I turned on the key and I let the clutch spill.

The sound that erupted took him by surprise,

But he liked it a lot, by the look in his eyes.

With Goodyears a' crying and side pipes aglow,

We headed on out where the hot rodders go.

And Santa's grin widened, approaching his ears,

With every up shift, as I went through the gears.

Then he yelled "can't recall when I've felt so alive!",

So I backed off the gas and said "you wanna drive?"

Ol’ Santa was stunned when I gave him the keys,

When he walked past the headlights he shook at the knees!

Then the HiPo exploded with side exhaust sound!

Santa let out the clutch and the tires shook the ground!

Power shift into second, again into third!

I sat there just watching, at loss for a word,

Then I heard him exclaim as we blasted from sight,

"Merry Christmas to all...........what a great night!!!"
