More Pictures from SAAC-36 (Part 2)

The Shelby American Automobile Club just held its 36th annual convention at Virginia International Raceway.  We posted some pictures from the event the other day, and here are some more.

The Friday Evening Social at SAAC-36 was held in the VIR Gallery.  There was a tremendous display of Shelby American Automobiles.  There were tables set up with information from the Shelby Registrars, Parts information and a few vendor displays.

1966 Shelby GT350's always look great in red!  Here is one in the Concours show area.

The Shelby American Automobile Club just held its 36th annual convention at Virginia International Raceway.  It was a fantastic event as usual.  If you ever have an opportunity to attend one of these meets, please do so.  You will never have the chance to see so many Shelby American cars at one venue.  Oh, I should mention that I am a very big fan of 1965 and 1966 GT350's, and I just noticed that most of my pictures are of these cars.  I'll make another post soon with more pictures, including ones from the track.

Here is another nice '66 Shelby with the optional ten spoke wheels.

How about a pretty much unrestored 1965 Shelby GT350?  Cars like this are fantastic references for  restoring a  '65.  This one was a great example.

Still another '65 GT350.  This one is For Sale.  With the rarity of '65 GT350's, it is just amazing to see so many at one place.

Weber carburetors just look so cool!  Here is a shot of the engine compartment of a friend's '66 Shelby.

1966 Shelby in TV Commercial

A friend of ours sent us this YouTube clip.  Watch closely and you will see the '66 Shelby GT350.  It is an early/carryover car.

Here is his explanation:

I have a friend who is in commercial advertising at Buckeye Cable System and is a real car nut.  He in turn gave the producer my name and address.  The object of the commercial was to get kids to read more.  The kids were from a charter school that deals with theater,  the actual film time was 30 min.  I had to stand there and talk to the kids about the engine and how to adjust the points and valves, the history of the car and answer their questions.  The kids had a good time especially the girl that got to sit in it.  Then I had to start it and rev it up for the camera.  It aired on the local cable stations.

Road Tour from the last Shelby American Automobile Club Convention in Northern California (SAAC-35).  Images ©Virginia Classic Mustang Inc
The Shelby American Automobile Club's 36th Annual Convention (SAAC-36) will be held this weekend (May 27-29) at Virginia International Raceway (VIR) in Alton, VA.

If you have never been to a national Shelby Convention or have never been to VIR (or even if you have!), you should definitely try to attend the event.  VIR is a beautiful facility and the variety of Shelby American  automobiles available to see should be amazing.

You can get more information on the SAAC Forum and the SAAC web site.

Please keep reading our Blog here.  We will have pictures from the event next week!
