1964 1/2-Early 1965 Mustang 289 High Performance Clutch Equalizer Bar

New BK-1911 1964 1/2 - Early 1965 Mustang 289 High Performance Clutch Equalizer Bar
It is always cool when a new part comes out.  Especially when it is as well made as this new Mustang HiPo Clutch Equalizer Bar.  The first K Code Mustangs became available in approximately early June of 1964.  The earlier cars were equipped with the 5 Bolt 289 HiPo Engine.  By August, the 5 bolt gave way to the 6 bolt block.  Alternators started being installed rather than Generators.

All of the 289 High Performance equipped Mustangs had a version of the Clutch "Z" Bar in order to work with the special HiPo Exhaust Manifolds.  There were actually two different versions of this HiPo Clutch Equalizer Bar - Early and Late.

New BK-1911 1964 1/2 - Early 1965 Mustang 289 High Performance Clutch Equalizer Bar.  This part matches the original quite well!  It is a really nice part!  All images ©Virginia Classic Mustang Inc

We have an early 65 Mustang HiPo Convertible with a scheduled build date of August 10, 1964.  It has the earlier bar.  The main difference between the early bar and the later bar is the length of the tube.  The early bar has a longer tube that measures 6 7/8 inches, and the later bar's tube measures 6 1/4 inches.  We are not sure exactly when the later bar started being used and would be interested to hear from any owners of September and October 1964 build date HiPo Mustangs.

Anyway this new Early Clutch Equalizer Bar is our Part Number BK-1911.    As mentioned, we are lucky to have an original bar to compare the reproduction to and were quite impressed with the quality of the reproduction.  It is really a super nice part.

This High quality Classic Mustang Hi-Po Clutch Equalizer Bar from Scott Drake Mustang Parts is made from fabricated steel with natural grey powder coating and features precision welds. It is made from original Ford prints. It also features a hidden grease zerk to extend bushing life. This grease fitting was not on the original bar. It can be removed.

1966 GT350 Mustang Restoration Project

We posted some vintage photos of our next restoration project, the early '66 GT350 Shelby, last week.

Original California License Plate RFJ 650 from 1966 GT350 Shelby.  The paper folded and taped over the tag is the temporary registration for the new owner.

One of the interesting things in two of the images that you may have noticed was the original Black and Yellow California license plates.  In California, the plate that was registered to the car stayed with the car, as opposed to most states where the plates are changed when the owners changed.

Here is our reproduction Black and Yellow California License Plate.  Those cool 1966 and 1967 stickers are reproductions too.  The Dana Chevrolet License Plate Frame tops it all off and will be a nice conversation starter mounted to a GT350.  All images ©Virginia Classic Mustang Inc

Anyway, this is any interesting bit of history for any older model car.  Unfortunately, those original California plates on the Shelby are long gone, but there is a company that makes reproductions of most any license plate.  The reproduction license plates are for display only, of course, and we think they are quite nice.  We even obtained some reproduction California 1966 and 1967 License Plate Stickers to match those in the original photo from a vendor on EBay.  We also obtained a reproduction of an original Dana Chevrolet license plate frame that was on the Shelby in those September of 1967 pictures.  If you are wondering about the Dana Chevrolet License Plate Frame, read our original Blog post that gives a brief history of this early 1966 GT30.   A friend with a 1967 Corvette that was originally purchased at Dana Chevrolet reproduces these frames.

By the way, if anyone out there has an original Dana Chevrolet license plate frame, we would really be interested in purchasing it.

We ordered our reproduction Black and Yellow California License Tags from http://www.licenseplates.tv/ .
