Customer Car - 1966 Mustang Fastback Drag Car
We always love to feature customer cars.
Here is the story from the owner:
Not long ago I sent you some Photos of my Mustang collection (64 1/2 convertible, 65 HiPo GT coupe and a 77 Cobra II).
I thought you might like to see some photos of my most recent acquisition... a 1966 Mustang fastback drag car. I purchased this car last November because I always wanted a fastback to complete my early collection. As you can see this is not a typical ground up restoration and it certainly wouldn't win the thoroughbred class at MCA, but the car does have an interesting history.
It is one of the original NHRA, IHRA drag cars built in the mid sixties so it has been a drag car all its life. I am trying to track down the cars complete history which has been part of the fun. So far I believe the car was built in Texas by Tom Hardy for a gentleman in Maryland where it spent most of its life. I purchased the car in Virginia.
Since I bought it my son and I have shown it at a local car show (drew a lot of attention) It was raced in late May at Rockingham where it ran a 6.0 @ 114.8 mph in the 1/8th mile. Not too bad for an old war horse. ( I call her "Bucket list"). You don't see many fastbacks at the at the drag strip (a lot of coupes) so this car draws a lot of attention as well as a ton of questions. It is fun owning a piece of Mustang history and just wanted to share.
