Check out this Mustang Collection from one of our Customers!

Mustang Collection from Virginia Classic Mustang customer.
www.VirginiaClassicMustang.com

Here at Virginia Classic Mustang, we love it when our customer share pictures of their Mustangs.  Usually, we get a picture or two of a Mustang that a customer has been working on for years.  How about this, though!?  Here are some pictures of one customer's collection of Mustangs!

We will let him tell the story:

Thought I would share a few photos of my Mustang collection.  I currently own all the Mustangs in the photos with the exception of the 69 Boss that I foolishly let go in the mid seventies. ( don’t we all have stories about the one that got away).

The cars are a 64 1/2 convertible that I purchased 19 years ago ( I am the third owner).

The next car is a 1965 HiPo coupe that I bought 36 years ago and took 32 years to restore ( I am the second owner of this California car).

The third car is a 1966 fastback drag car that I recently purchased.(not sure of how many owners before me but this car has been a drag vehicle since new.

The last car is a 1977 Cobra II that  my wife encouraged me to get as a birthday present in October 1976.  This car is 90% original and is still a head turner ( I know that this is not one of the cars you support but I thought you might like to see a mid seventies survivor).

Each car has an interesting history and I have had fun owning each of them.  I have been a Mustang owner for over 45 years, that would have been longer but Uncle Sam intervened and spoiled my first purchase of a  new 1965 HiPo coupe.  The day my car was delivered to the dealership,I received my draft notice and had to refuse the car.  The blue coupe was purchased to replace one of the ones that got away.

have been a long time VA Mustang customer and many of the parts used in these cars came from you.  I really appreciated the variety and quality of the parts that you carry and have been proud to show these cars with your equipment.  Keep up the good work.

1968 Mustang California Special Recognition Guide and Owners Manual

1968 Mustang California Special (GT/CS) Recognition Guide and Owners Manual
www.VirginiaClassicMustang.com
We now have this great 68 California Special book in stock!!!  Check out the description below.

The Ultimate 1968 Mustang California Special Reference Book!

The Mustang GT/CS Recognition Guide & Owner's Manual by Paul M. Newitt and licensed by Ford is a hardbound, full color 224 page detailed story of the limited-edition 1968 Ford Mustang--which was created just for California.

The story of how the California-Crazy car culture in the 1960s prompted the marketing of Mustang's first factory-produced special edition is described in incredible detail - from the inspiration of Shelby's "Little Red" coupe to the development by Ford Design to become 4,118 GT/California Specials.

The story continues with the marketing plan by J.Walter Thompson and California's Ford Dealer's Association to bring this Mustang to market in the spring of 1968. A detailed account of the GT/CS variant, the "High Country Special," sold in the Denver sales district is also included.

Detailed production statistics, rare factory photos, authentication, options, accessories, specific part descriptions and comprehensive Concours restoration information are covered, along with the complete stories of the Shelby prototype coupes "Little Red," and the EXP-500 "Green Hornet."

A separate chapter is devoted to the development, prototypes and production of the 2007-09 and 2011 GT/CS, and a complete GT/CS Owner Registry of 1,300 cars with photos rounds out the volume. Each book is beautifully bound, signed and numbered. A very special, limited edition for Mustang collectors!

1965-68 Mustang Fog Lamp Bulbs in Amber

1965-68 Mustang Amber Fog Lamp Bulb
www.VirginiaClassicMustang.com

Any fog lights that were factory installed on 1965-68 Mustangs were clear, but amber bulbs have always been a popular addition.  We have not had them in amber for years, but now they are back.

These fog lamp bulbs fit into the bodies exactly like the originals and even feature the correct "FOG" marking on the bottom.  There is a unique GT center marking, but this in covered when installed in the body with the chrome bezel.

Our part number is ER-571.

Just the Details...1966 GT350 Shelby Mustang

The back tail light panel area of the 66 Shelby Mustang is almost back together.
www.VirginiaClassicMustang.com

We have been posting about our recently acquired 1966 GT350 Shelby.  If you missed the first post, you can click here to read it.  Here is a link to the second post.   We usually post here about cars that are receiving full blown restorations. This one is going to be a bit different.

Since this is a nice, original 80K mile car, we have decided just to clean some things up and use it as a "driver".  In doing so, we are using most all of the original parts in their present, but cleaned up, condition.

Jeremy at Maple Hill Restoration (www.MapleHillResto.com) is handling the job and carefully cleaning the original parts.  The back tail light panel area is now back together.  The floor has been cleaned.  Next the fenders, front valance, front bumper, and grill were removed.  All of these parts and areas are being cleaned and carefully reassembled.

We checked out the engine by performing a compression test and a leak down test.  The results were great even though I don't believe the engine has ever really been apart.  We also checked out the valve stem seals and found the originals with the FoMoCo logos!!!  Obviously, those needed replacement.

The original 622 (2nd week of Feb. 1966) was rebuilt.  The car really runs great.  It does need a clutch and pressure plate replacement, so that's next up on the mechanical check list.

Check out the pictures below.  We have some images of the original rear leaf spring markings, the black out on the rocker pinch welds, the read end casting date, pink markings on the rear u-bolts, the original grommet/plug in the apron for a no radio Mustang, and more.

Be sure to read the caption under each image for additional information.

Careful cleaning revealed the original yellow paint marking on the rear leaf springs on the 66 Shelby Mustang.

Here's a shot of the original black out paint on the rocker pinch weld.  I found it a bit unusual that a dark green car would have the black out treatment.

From brand new, the brake cooling ducts were not sealed to the wheel house.  The rivets were also never properly tightened.  Consequently, dirt come in around this area.  It has been cleaned up here.

The fenders have been removed for careful cleaning.

Check out these original dual exhaust muffler hangers from the Shelby.  The rubber used came from sidewalls of old tires.  These have been cleaned and will be used as is.

Here is the original Shelby VIN stamping that Shelby American stamped on the RH fender apron.  Although the size and style of the font varied over the period, the VIN was stamped here on all of the '65 and '66 GT350 Mustangs.

In keeping with our theme of keeping all of the original parts, the original tail light lenses were carefully polished by Jeremy at Maple Hill Restoration.

This is the original rubber plug/grommet that was used in the antenna cable hole on a Mustang with no radio.  This is the panel in front of the door hinges behind the RH fender.  This is the exact same grommet that I have seen used in the firewall for the HiPo choke cable on Mustangs and Shelbys.
