We have not had an update on our '65 HiPo Mustang Convertible lately.  We have been just working on some small details, and we are now ready to set the engine and transmission.  In fact, that will probably be done tomorrow.

In the meantime, we wanted to take some pictures of the engine all put together before some pieces get taken off for the final installation.  If you have been following along with our posts about this K code Mustang restoration, you know that we chose to take a bit of an unconventional route with some of the engine bolt ons.

We had a 3 x 2 (tri-power) Ford induction system with September 1964 dated carb's that has been under our workbench for 10 or 15 years.  We thought it was time to do something with it.  Going along with the same theme, we opted for the Cobra "roadster" finned aluminum oil pan and the popular Buddy Bar Cobra "open letter" valve covers.

It will be cool to finally get the engine in the car where it belongs.

  1. Nice job on the engine! Lot of nice touchs - especially the COBRA pieces. Can't wait to see pics of this mounted and running! Mustang convertible has always been tops in my book - which dates back to high school when they first came out. They were kickers up and down Woodward back then. Still are now! Good luck with the rest of your project!

  2. good to see the tri power setup as i have one on my 65 fastback a code which has been rebuilt to a little better than shelby specs and those carbs make a peppy 289 an absolute blast and the sound at full noise has to be heard to be believed. The carbs were fitted to my fastback by the original owner in 65 and are still looking like new.
