Mustang and Ford Alternator Fans Are Here!!

Since losing our supplier over a year ago, we have been out of alternator fans. We have good news now though! We have a new manufacturer, and these fans are back and even better!

These alternator fans were used on all Mustangs (and, of course, other Fords) from the first '65s equipped with alternators through much of the 1970 model year until 11/17/69.

These new fans feature the correct "U" in a circle vendor stamping. The gold zinc plated version was used starting in very late '66 production. The exact same fan is also available with a black painted finish. The black ones are dipped painted just like the original.

In addition, there is a third version available. This flat fan was used from the beginning of alternator production until around May of 1965. This version comes complete with the spacer that was originally used under the fan during installation. The spacer is also available separately.

We've got more pictures today of the restoration of '66 Shelby #33 as Jeremy at Maple Hill Restoration continues to make great progress. Even though we had lots of components restored and ready to go on, the research and parts collection continues!

In this series, we have the back end assembled with the trunk lid and bumper, the sealer applied on the firewall, the engine and transmission installed, and more!

After careful study of the pictures before disassembly, lots of spraying of test patterns, and observations of cars built around the same time period, Jeremy was able to really nail the sealer for the firewall.

The gas tank is shown here, ready to install. The sending unit is an original that was restored and tested. The units used on '65 Mustangs had a C4ZF number. The C6 number appeared in 1966. There was no C5ZF model.

The picture below shows the trunk area prepared with sealer for the installation of the gas tank.

The rear license light assembly was disassembled and restored. The key is finding a unit with nice, original wiring. You will also note that the assembly is dated. This is the original from the car and is dated "5F" for June of 1965.

Even the tail light bodies are dated, although this date cannot be seen once the body is installed.

An older NOS transmission mount was sourced featuring the same numbers as the original assembly line unit. You will note the paint marking. We will mention that we only duplicated the markings found on this particular car. Often times these markings vary by plant, production date, options, and more. Consistency is often lacking also.

The exact finishes and overspray patterns were duplicated on the rear valance. In this particular case, the back side of the valance was painted with a red sealer and then received lots of body color overspray.

The "OK" marking was reapplied to the transmission bellhousing.

Original oil pressure sending units are extremely tough to find. There are tons of suitable replacements, but the originals for '65-66 models featured a square, rather than hex base for tightening. They were dated too! We were able to obtain this one from a good friend, and, and strangely enough, it even has a suitable date of "D5", April 1965, for 6S033.
