Just the Details...1966 GT350 Shelby Carryover Update

1966 Shelby Mustang GT350. SFM6S033
www.VirginiaClassicMustang.com

Our last update on '66 Shelby GT350 6S033 was over a month ago! I didn't even realize it had been that long. Anyway, if you missed that post, please click here. It showed some pictures of the interior floor and trunk area painting.

Today, we have some pictures of the completed paint on the outside of the car...everything is finally untaped!! The other components such as the doors, fenders, trunk lid, hood, and valances have been painted separately. Assembly will start with the Shelby remaining on the rotisserie and other items installed once the car is removed from the rotisserie.

Take a look at the pictures. Jeremy at Maple Hill Restoration did the work and spent a lot of time planning the painting process. Careful attention was paid to duplicating the original finishes and over-spray patterns shown here. Scroll down to check out more comments and see more images. You can also see larger versions of the images by clicking on one.

The interior floor pan was painted with the factory color primer and then received some body color to duplicate the original finish.

Many components have been restored and will be installed on the car while it remains on the rotisserie. It will be then taken down from the rotisserie and continued to be assembled.

The underdash/inside firewall area will be difficult to see once the Shelby is completely assembled, but the original details were duplicated anyway. The yellow paint at the back side area where the export brace was welded on was found on 6S033 and several GT350s. We aren't exactly sure why that was done.

The underside of the roof paint original finish was also duplicated.

The black out of the firewall in the engine compartment area was duplicated based on what was found on 6S033. The kind of unusual undercoating/sound deadener at the front of the transmission tunnel has also been duplicated.

Note that the primer/sealer color on this particular Shelby was darker under the front engine compartment than the floor pan.

Autolite Distributor Caps are back!

Ford Autolite Distributor Cap
www.VirginiaClassicMustang.com
We are excited to announce that we now have an exact reproduction of the Autolite Distributor Cap in stock! There were at least two different reproductions available several years ago, but both have been discontinued for a while now.

These new reproductions are made from brand new tooling. There were two different versions of assembly line caps, and both of them have been accurately reproduced. In both cases, the Autolite markings were digitally copied from original samples and laser engraved in molds for super correct copies.

There are two versions offered. The 67-Early 68 version features smaller and more narrow lettering. The Late 68-71 version has a bit taller and wider lettering.

Here are links to both versions:

Mecum Auction - Kissimmee, Florida - Jan. 2016

While the weather may be a a bit cool for Florida, it's certainly a whole lot better than it is in Virginia! Also with the pending weather forecast, Florida is sounding nice right about now. The Mecum Auction in Kissimmee, FL is in full swing with some cool Mustangs coming up in the next few days.

Let's take a look at a few of them.

The 1965 Mustang Coupe pictured above will appear in this Friday's (1/22/16) lot. It's advertised as a "nut and bolt rotisserie restoration". It's finished in Prairie Bronze with a black vinyl top. Any guesses on the possible selling price! Click here to visit the link on the Mecum Auction site.

Maybe the '70 Boss 302 pictured above is more to your liking? It's advertised as having been restored 25 years ago with only 142 miles since that restoration. The auction estimate is $90-110K. Click here for more information.

There are several Boss 429 Mustangs being offered. The red one is a restored example with a Mustang Club of America Thoroughbred Gold Award in its resume. The auction estimate on this beauty is $375-425K. Click here for more.

There is also an unrestored example of a '69 Boss 429. This one still sports its original paint, and the auction estimate is $325-375K. You can read more by clicking here. There are even a few more Boss 429s being offered at this particular auction.

There's also a 1966 Shelby Mustang GT350 being offered. It's one of the early Hertz cars. It was previously a no sale at the May 2015 Mecum Auction in Indianapolis and was listed on Ebay in August of the same year. Click here to read more and see more pictures.

There is another 1965 Mustang Coupe equipped with the 289 HiPo "K" engine being offered on Saturday (1/23/16). It's advertised at a Mustang Club of America Trailered Concours Gold Award winner and has an auction estimate of $65-90K. Click here for more.

New Year's Day Shelby Cruise

We thought we would kick off 2016 by sharing some pictures and a post from our friend over at another Blog, ShelbyGuy.net.  He attended a New Year's Day cruise in Southern California that started at Shelby Headquarters in Gardena. The cruise was sponsored by the Los Angeles Shelby American Automobile Club.  Click on any of the pictures to go to his page and check out more pictures and his video. Got to love that Southern California weather!
