2013 NE SAAC Regional Event Recap (Part 1)

Lining up the Shelbys and Mustangs for the NE Regional SAAC Road Tour.
www.VirginiaClassicMustang.com

The Lehigh Valley Region of the Shelby American Automobile Club puts on the Northeast Regional event every October.  The event held this past weekend was the 4th Annual event, and we haven't missed any.  It's a great meet.  If you have never attended, you may want to think about doing so next year.  It never disappoints.

The event always begins on Friday evening with an evening social at the Sheraton Hotel in Harrisburg, PA. It's always fun to just hang around and talk cars.  We always bring a few new parts and literature to display.

Saturday morning brings a great breakfast buffet in the same banquet room at the Sheraton.  After our road tour instructions, it's off to the back parking lot to line up for the tour.  Again, this year the weather was beautiful, and we experienced the best tour route yet with a few stops, curvy roads and covered bridges.

The tour ends at Bill Collin's Collector Fords for a great lunch.

Saturday evening is also fun with the program and banquet back at the host hotel.  On Sunday, the popular vote car show is held at the AACA Museum in Hershey, PA.

Next year, the plan is to "freshen" things up a bit with a different location near Gettysburg.  Don't miss it!

We will have more pictures this week.  Enjoy!

Customer Car - 1965 GT350 Mustang Shelby

1965 GT350 Mustang Shelby.  SFM5S289.  Vintage photo from 1971 or 1972 in Germany.
www.VirginiaClassicMustang.com
We love it when a customer sends in photos of their car.  It's even better when a vintage image is included!!

This is 1965 GT350 Mustang - Serial Number SFM5S289 (cool number, huh?).  This Shelby was originally purchased by Raymond W. Gregg, Jr. from Houma, LA.

It was later purchased by Ford Autohaus (Erlansee, Germany) in 1968 or 1969.  The dealer had acquired it from an army lieutenant.  It was successfully autocrossed and drag raced as "Irritation" by the dealer at an army airfield as shown above. Purchased in Germany in 1972 by the current owner who now lives in Alabama and still owns it today.

Mustang Front Suspension Spring Seat and Bushing Assembly

1965-73 Mustang Front Suspension Spring Seat and Bushing Assembly.
www.VirginiaClassicMustang.com
The spring seat and bushing assembly is a very common item that needs replacement on any 1965-73 Mustang.  With the availability of the nice reproduction at a really reasonable price, it's not worth replacing the bushing only.  It's much easier to just replace the entire assembly.  This is done by removing the front coil spring and old assembly and installing the new unit on the upper control arm.

Our part number is SU-129.

In addition to the 65-73 Mustang, this part also fits the following Fords:

  • 1967-1973 Cougar
  • 1960-1970 Falcon
  • 1960-1974 Comet
  • 1966-1971 Fairlane
  • 1968-1971 Montego
  • 1968-1971 Torino
  • 1970-1977 Maverick

For our customers looking for a great improvement over the stock part, you may want to consider our spring seat and bushing assembly with roller bearings (SU-1291).

1969 Mustang Boss 302 - Original Images

As the 50th Anniversary of the Mustang approaches, Ford Motor Company continues to release cool information and vintage photos of various Mustang models.  Today, we take a look at the 1969 Mustang Boss 302.

In early 1968, Ford named Semon E. "Bunkie" Knudsen its president.  Knudsen was a firm believer that high performance could sell more cars.  A designer named Larry Shinoda was hired and along with chief engineer Howard Freers, they were given the task of designing a special high performance model Mustang.  This Mustang would be inspired by the cars that won the first two Trans Am championships in 1966 and 1967.

The 1969 and 1970 Mustang Boss 302 models, of course, became very successful on the track winning the Trans Am championship in 1970.

Enjoy the pictures!
