The engine was completely rebuilt in 2002 and now has 10K miles.  A brand new T-5 transmission was installed 6,700 miles ago.  The factory carburetor was rebuilt by Pony Carburetors.  The distributor was also rebuild and a Pertronix Ignitor has been installed.  A new gas tank, lines and related components were installed.  A completely new exhaust, tips, and related components were installed.

Most all exterior and interior chrome has been replaced.  The Rally Pac has been completely rebuilt and restored.

The brake system has been completely rebuilt with new lines, hoses, etc. and a 67 dual reservoir master cylinder was added for safety.  The suspension was also completely rebuilt with new bushings, leaf springs, tie rod ends, power steering components, shocks, etc.

The air conditioning was completely rebuilt with a new Sanden compressor, dryer, condenser, hoses, etc.  It works perfectly.

The interior was completely restored with new carpet, seat upholstery, door panels, dash pad, steering wheel, etc.

This Mustang is a super reliable car and can be driven absolutely anywhere.  It has been on many long distance trips and Antique Automobile Club of America tours including a trip from Virginia to Maine and back.

NEW BOOK!!! Mustang: Fifty Years - Celebrating America's Only True Pony Car

Donald Farr's new book - Mustang:  Fifty Years - Celebrating America's Only True Pony Car is now in stock!!
www.VirginiaClassicMustang.com

WOW!  We just received our first shipment of the new hardcover book - Mustang:  Fifty Years - Celebrating America's Only True Pony Car.  Since starting Virginia Classic Mustang over 30 years ago, we have seen lots of Mustang books come and go.  There have been (and still are) some great books available, but this is just one of those absolute "must have" books for any Mustang enthusiast.

I just quickly spent a few minutes flipping through the book, and it looks fantastic, just as I suspected.  There are lots of cool images (over 400!!) that most folks have never seen before along with unique information about the history of the Ford Mustang from the concept models all the way up to the current model.  I cannot wait to just sit down for a few hours and read it cover to cover!

Another great thing about this book is its author, Donald Farr.  Donald has been involved in the Mustang hobby pretty much from the beginning, and he is, of course, well known as the long time editor of Mustang Monthly Magazine.  He's a good friend of ours, extremely knowledgeable Mustang enthusiast, and one of the nicest guys you could meet. He's done a great job with this book, and you won't want to miss it.

You also may want to check out Donald's other book - Mustang Boss 302:  From Racing Legend to Modern Muscle Car.  This book is the new version of his highly acclaimed Mustang Boss 302 - Ford's Trans-Am Pony Car:  A Complete History and Recognition Guide.

Grand Sport Mustang?

Grand Sport Mustang Emblem - similar to the factory 65-66 Mustang GT Emblem.
www.VirginiaClassicMustang.com

Have you ever seen one of these?

Here is what I think is an interesting little piece of Mustang history. I recently picked up this emblem. It is made exactly like a 65-66 style GT Badge, yet, as you can see, it says "Grand Sport." This came from someone who worked for the company that made these prototype badges for the Mustangs.

www.VirginiaClassicMustang.com
There is a book called "Mustang: The Complete History of America's Pioneer Ponycar" that was published in 1979. It is written by Gary L. Witzenburg. This emblem is pictured on page 64 of this book along with some other prototype emblems. It is the only other place that I have heard of this particular emblem. Apparently, "Grand Sport" was just one of many names that were considered for a particular option package before the Mustang was built .

Here is a picture of an original production '65 Mustang GT Badge that most all readers are probably familiar with.

Anyway, if someone has any more information about this unique emblem, I would love to hear from you.

Mustang Vent Window Glass Frames

Mustang Vent Window Glass Frame.
www.VirginiaClassicMustang.com

Along with our 65-66 Mustang Vent Glass Frames, we now have the frames for the 1967 Mustang.

All of these frames feature the stainless steel  channel frames like the original with the chrome pivot.  This chrome pivot is almost always in poor condition on an original frame.  These new parts also include the complete bracket, spring and chrome vent window handle.  The vent glass is not included.

Here is the list of available frames:

ER-5292L  65-66 Mustang LH Vent Window Glass Frame

ER-5292R  65-66 Mustang RH Vent Window Glass Frame

ER-5294L  67      Mustang LH Vent Window Glass Frame

1965-66 Mustang Outside Mirrors

1965-66 Mustang Standard Outside Round Head Mirror.
www.VirginiaClassicMustang.com

These certainly aren't new parts, but they are worth mentioning.  The standard mirror for a 1965 and 1966 Mustang was a round head chrome mirror that fits on the LH (driver's) side door.

We have an absolutely super reproduction of this part.  It's made in the USA and comes complete with the pad (gasket) and mounting screws.  This is an exceptionally nice part.  It's much better than any NOS Ford mirror of the same version that I have ever seen.  I would certainly use this over an NOS mirror, even on the highest level restoration.

Our part number is ER-198.  It's also available with a convex glass to use on the RH (passenger's) side door as part number ER-1981.  You can certainly use the ER-1981 on the LH side also if you wish.

By the way, we also carry an imported version of this reproduction for the more budget-minded restoration. It's our part number ER-710.

Just the Details...Factory Markings in the Mustang Trunk

June '64 produced Mustang High Performance Coupe.
www.VirginiaClassicMustang.com

If you read our Blog at all, you know my personal favorites are the '65 and '66 289 High Performance / K Code Mustangs (and, of course, GT-350s).

I may have posted these images before, but for you geeky detail freaks, they are worth looking at again.

The first one is an image of our June '64 Dearborn produced HiPo Mustang Coupe.  In case you can't picture where this is on the car, it is the area right in front of the gas tank.  As you can see, this area was lettered "HI-PERF" before the Poppy Red paint was applied.

We have another image of a October '64 Dearborn produced HiPo Mustang Fastback.  On this Mustang, you can see that "HP" was written in the same area.

We also are aware of a October '64 San Jose Mustang Fastback lettered in the same area with "HI-PERF".

If you have a K Code with any similar markings, we would certainly be interested in seeing a picture and/or hearing about it.

1966 Ford Mustang at the Top of the Empire State Building!!

In October 1965, Ford disassembled a 1966 Ford Mustang and transported to the top of the Empire State Building in New York where it was reassembled.  Photos courtesy of Ford Motor Company.
As the 50th Anniversary of the Ford Mustang approaches, Ford Motor Company has been releasing some great images and stories concerning Mustang history.  This is another very interesting story!  In October of 1965, Ford worked with the Empire State Building management to put a brand new 1966 Mustang Convertible on the top of the famed building.

Ford engineers "disassembled" the car in pieces that would fit the building's service elevators to transport them to the roof.  Special brackets were built for reassembly once the trip was made to the top.

Read the whole story here:

Mustang Rubber Floor Mat Set

Black Mustang Rubber Floor Mat Set with Molded Running Horses and White Racing Stripes.
www.VirginiaClassicMustang.com

When the Ford Mustang was introduced in 1964, it obviously became wildly popular very quickly.  Lots of aftermarket suppliers wanted to jump on the band wagon of success and produce parts for the new Mustang.  Some of these parts were not so great, but some were even better than the factory parts offered through Ford.

One of the neatest parts was a set of Floor Mats.  These particular floor mat sets with  white racing stripes were very popular back in the sixties.  We have a great reproduction of these floor mats.  We have been out of them for a while, but they are available and in stock again!

From Ford Motor Company: Mustangs That Never Were

The Mach 1, as it was shown at the 1967 Detroit Auto Show with a face closer to production Mustangs of the time. The low-cut roofline and racing-type fuel cap never made it to production, but the hatchback did eventually arrive on the 1974 Mustang II.  Image courtesy of Ford Motor Company.

With the upcoming 50th Anniversary of the Ford Mustang, Ford Motor Company recently posted some images of some Mustang concept cars.  Which is your favorite?

See more here at Ford's link:

https://media.ford.com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/news/2013/08/26/ford-mustangs-that-never-were.html

In 1967, Ford designers decided to reprise one of the original Mustang design concepts from 1962 with a new form and repurposed name. Starting with the Avanti/Allegro fastback coupe, the greenhouse was removed and replaced with a low-cut speedster-style windshield, rollbar, flying buttresses on the rear deck and a new rear end. The reworked concept was dubbed Allegro II.  Image courtesy of Ford Motor Company.
In the mid-1960s, Ford designers considered at least a couple of different concepts for a Mustang station wagon, with at least one running prototype based on a 1966 coupe getting built. Another design study included elements for refreshed models that were coming later that decade. All of the known Mustang wagons were three-doors that were closer to a European “shooting brake” than a traditional American family station wagon.  Image courtesy of Ford Motor Company.
As the first-generation Mustang transitioned from a pony car to a larger and heavier big-block muscle car, the Mach 1 concept was created as a preview of the 1968 model. The original nose of the concept drew inspiration from the 1963 Mustang II concept.  Image courtesy of Ford Motor Company.

With the Mustang having already set sales records following its launch in 1964, Ford design chief Gene Bordinat and the Special Vehicles Group decided to try rearranging the pieces for the Mach 2 concept. The 289 Hi-Po V8 was shifted from the front to behind the two seats to evaluate the layout as a possible successor to the Shelby Cobra. Despite its mid-engine layout, the Mach 2 retained the long-hood, short-deck proportions of a Mustang. Unfortunately, the Mach 2 never went much beyond the auto show circuit.  Image courtesy of Ford Motor Company.
First shown publicly at the February 1970 Chicago Auto Show, the Mustang Milano concept previewed the nearly horizontal rear deck and sharp, extended nose that would be seen on the production 1971 model. However, aside from those two elements, the Milano didn’t really bear much resemblance to any production Mustang. In fact, the car that probably drew most heavily on the Milano profile was the Australian-market Falcon XB coupe of the mid-1970s.  Image courtesy of Ford Motor Company.
